How we check

We ask the Environment Agency for warnings and alerts every 5 minutes and for river levels every 15 minutes.

If warnings are more than 20 minutes old, or river levels more than 45 minutes old, every page says the data is delayed. We never show an all-clear from old data.

A gauge counts as reporting if it has sent a reading in the last 6 hours. In dry weather some gauges send readings only every few hours to save battery. When rivers rise they report every 15 minutes again.
